Rape culture is just that – a culture, so it is hard to explain in just a few words (lucky there is a heap of info below to help you get your head around it. Like any culture, it is built of ideas, values, language, behaviours and ‘norms’ that have a way of sneaking into your everyday life. The crappy thing though is that Rape culture is a culture that creates impossible ‘rules’ about how to think and act like a ‘real’ man or a ‘real’ woman; it assumes that sexual violence is inevitable and can silence people who try to challenge any of this.
