π£ Inviting all artists aged 13-18 in Cairns and surrounds to create a piece of art that SPEAKS UP against sexual violence.Β
Want a safer, more equitable future? Sick of those tired old stereotypes of the perfect, image-obsessed female or the sporty, aggressive, cocky male? SPEAK OUT against attitudes that excuse disrespect and sexual violence, and support a culture where we all can feel safe and respected.Β
To mark Sexual Violence Awareness Month in October 2022, RespectMe is hosting the SpeakOUT Art Fair.
We are calling for young artists to develop a piece of visual or graphic art that SPEAKS UP against one or more of the drivers of sexual violence:
- Excusing violence, disrespect, microaggressions and other forms of control against women and girls (victim blaming, shaming, lack of consent, tolerance of βjokesβ, harassment, etc)
- Rigid gender stereotyping of males and females that leads to controlling, unhealthy relationships
- Ideas of manhood that emphasise aggression, dominance and control
Help create a safer and healthier community for us all!
π Up to $350 worth of prizes for the best and most creative interpretation of the theme.
π All submissions will be on public display from 16 October for one month and will be showcased on social media.
β‘οΈ To enter, please download competition guidelines here. SUBMISSIONS EXTENDED TO 4 OCTOBER 2022.
